In my previous post, I talked about the first half of my family’s roadtrip to take my little brother to university. We started out with a weekend in Quebec city, and continued into a week of family time in North Hatley. Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to our cousins at the end of that week, but the four Walshes headed out to Metis to see our close family friends. It was absolutely wonderful to see them and catch up after too many years apart.

Metis is honestly one of the most beautiful parts of Canada. There is something about the weather, water, and architecture that just makes you feel like you’re in a book. That, combined with the reminiscent conversation, amazing food, and some of the most beautiful walks I’ve ever done worked together to result in a incredible time with our family friends.

Located along the St Lawerence, the flora of the area is classically Canadian and reminded me of how lucky I am to live in a country that has such beauty. It’s easy to get caught up in the city life of Toronto and feel like Canada has little to offer besides the hustle and bustle. It’s not straightforward to travel in Canada as the planes, trains, and buses are all extremely expensive, and the country is so spread out trhat it can be hard to see places that are more remote. The natural beauty is a nice reminder to be thankful for what we can experience.

It was a little chilly while we were there, which was perfect for me; there’s nothing better in my book than a night of storytelling around a fire.

After Metis, our next stop was Antigonish! We dropped Jack off to St FX, and did the typical walmart runs and university moving in things. I’m honestly so proud of him for everything he’s done in the last couple years, and am so excited to see where St FX takes him.

Jack’s roomate is someone the entire family knows-a friend from home who has been around our house for years(I’m pretty sure he attended more family dinners with my parents than I have in the last year) and god only knows what kind of trouble these two are going to get into.

We ended the trip with a visit to family in Halifax. It was a great way to wrap everything up, and it was wonderful to see my aunts, uncles, cousins and my grandma. We, in traditional walsh fashion, basically ate our way through Halifax. I’m so grateful for those few days before I moved away, and it was truly the perfect ending to a wild trip.

If you guys are interested in keeping up with me over the next year, I’ve been up to some pretty crazy adventures; coming up next is a full post on my move to Glasgow!
